“Why I Bullet Journal”

0 Comments

To be honest, I’m a little obsessed with exploring trends and I especially love dipping my toe into all things self-improvement and personal growth.

Because you never stop learning.

One of the things I stumbled across was Bullet Journaling and after spending half a day scrolling through Pinterest, I was sold. Ready to put my creative hat on and start doodling that picture perfect instagramable sh*t.

And so I did.

(If you haven’t heard of Bullet Journaling it’s basically a blank journal with symmetrical dot patterns in it, people use it as a planner, to-do list, calendar, creative outpour and what not – check out the link above and you’ll see what I mean.)

I started off doing everything as perfectly as I could. Aiming to copy some of those Pinterest ready, perfectly hand printed pages and fonts. I had a rough plan before getting started. Jesus you didn’t think I would just start a bullet journal without a plan did you? Madness that would be. Mind you, I actually hesitated to get started for about two weeks because I had those perfect Insta and Pinterest pics in my mind and god forgive I might completely RUIN the whole thing.

Which now I know, is just complete bullsh*t. My bullet journal is not perfect, it has some very pretty pages and some rather ugly ones. And you know what? That’s ok, I love it anyway.

I decided after the first 5 perfect pages, why the hell would you spend 3-5 hours depicting a perfect plan for tasks that might take you 15mins in total? It’s insane really when you come to think of it.

Anyway, I found a good balance for me and I have to say – I am a firm believer now. And if you have been thinking about it and are scared to start because you don’t have perfect handwriting or talent I just wanted to let you know, that that is certainly not what it’s about. For me anyway.

The great thing about a bullet journal is that you can do whatever the heck you want with it. You can get as creative as you want, or just keep things minimalistic. And psst I’ll let you in on my number one #lifehack, you don’t actually have to take a pic and put it on Pinterest if you don’t want to. Mind blowing, I know.

I decided to have some major pages that set out my goals in life, the directions I want to go in and how I want to grow on a personal level. Sometimes it’s just good to get your thoughts on paper. I can’t remember who I heard this from but it’s true – it’s like downloading your thoughts onto a page and then you don’t have to spend so much time worrying about them in the back of your mind, you’ve got them on paper file now.

I think it’s also important to ask yourself those big questions in life. Where do I want to be in the next 3 to 5 years? What do I want to achieve? And what kind of person do I want to become?

Yes, I do know that can be scary. And I also know that you cannot plan your life because stuff always comes up, I certainly had not planned on moving to Stockholm a year ago and now – here I am. But it’s still in line with my personal goals and values.

On a daily basis I do a scheme that somewhat resembles that of the 5 minute journal, which is also a very famous journaling method.

I jot down my thoughts just for a couple of minutes in the morning and another couple at night. It really doesn’t take long and you would be suprised just how this little thing can give you a different perspective on life, on the day you just had and how god damn lucky most of us are.

This is what I tend to write:

_____________________________________________

// MORNING JOURNALING

What would make today great?

What am I grateful for?

What mantra/quote do I want to live by today? If you cant think of one Momentum will do it for you.

// EVENING JOURNALING

3 amazing things that happened today (on awesome days it’s even more)

How could I have made today even better?

Any of you journal? Would love to hear about it…drop me a comment.
